[NTLK] Pen drift: Solutions or possible trade?

Hi again,

My 2100 has a case of the classic "pen drift". Not jaggies, but the
ink gradually diverges from the pen the further across the screen you
go. I'm worried it might become jaggies over time.

Assuming you're holding it in standard portrait orientation, and
calibrate the pen normally, the top half of the screen has nearly
perfect alignment, but the closer you get to the bottom, the ink strays
up to about a quarter of an inch above the pen (I think -- going from
memory here). This means I miss a lot of icons, select the wrong menu
items, and have my HWR generally thrown off.

You can get it in the right ballpark by carefully missing the
calibration marks, but it's nearly impossible to get it exactly right.
I know from the other Newts I've used that it's not tracking correctly.

This is really sad, because the device is otherwise pretty close to
mint condition.

Apart from the usual jaggies techniques (business card along edge,
cleaning the ribbon cable contacts with alcohol, etc) which don't seem
to have helped, is there anything else I can try?

I'm tempted to get a replacement screen, but I'm worried I'll spend a
long time installing it, and it won't be any better (or possibly
worse!) Or I'll end up breaking the thing entirely.

Another (expensive!) option is buying a "5/5" rated Newton from GEM.
Has anyone done this? If so, any alignment problems? (Incidentally,
the Newton in question came from GEM, before the rating system was
implemented.)

Alternatively, I have a spare un-upgraded 2000 I'm not using that is in
somewhat worn (but not abused) condition, and a couple extra 4 MB
cards. Does anyone have a spare 2100 or 2000u in similar condition
without alignment problems they'd be willing to trade for the
un-upgraded 2000 w/ cards?

Thanks for any advice,

Steven
