Connector sex ed 101

The male is inserted in the female.

The male USUALLY has pins and the female has sockets.

But, as in life, even connectors can undergo a sex change so that the male has sockets and the female has pins!

You can take your cue from the shell. The one that fits inside the other, regardless of pin configuration is termed the
male.

So, the Newton has a female connector and the dongle is therefore male.

The connectors I have are male. i.e. they are the same as the ones in the dongle.

Regards,

PCBman
