[NTLK] Ser 001

Hi Folks

Just wanted to let everyone know...

This time last Saturday I was in the middle of swapping a 2100 logic
board into a brand new 2000 case. It went smoothly.

Today I recieved my Ser 001 mod from PCB Man. It was harder getting
into the fine packaging that he sent me it in than the Newton itself!
Anyway, I installed the mod and closed the Newt up to be disappointed
there was a millimetre gap between the case parts at the docking port.
If I tightened the screw too much the case went wonky and not firm
enough it left this gap. Yikes!

I checked the list archives and noticed this is something previously
discussed. It is not the fault of PCB Man but merely the size of off
the shelf components that are not made to fit snug. Upon the experience
of others on the list I noted their mods (to the mod itself!) and
removed the black washer thingy on the PCB where you are meant to put a
screw which saved a mm in height and shaved some of the top off the
serial connector port. Personally I don't believe the shaving of the
port makes a difference but whatever, the fit is now a whole lot better
and a whole lot more acceptable than a gap. The door closes perfectly
and guess what? I can use a keyboard if I want without a dongle. Wahoo!

Respect goes to PCB Man for this fine mod, excellent stuff!

So to those who are currently (or are about to) fit the Ser 001 I hope
this helps.

Have fun.
