Donald,

The Magellan units themselves are not necessarily 'newton compatible' but they should be able to output a data stream (via a 10-20$ cord) in NMEA compatible language, which most Newton GPS programs can understand. Right now, I use a Magellan 315, while a colleague uses a brand new Magellan Meridian series. Both of them will transmit NMEA data via their output cables. Both of which work perfectly FieldWorker and GPSMap Lite (and I imagine any other software that supports the NMEA protocol.

The unit you're looking at likely is WAAS - enabled, given the 3-meter rating. Quite a bargain I think, considering my 10-20 meter accuracy unit cost that much a few years ago. Now I only wish I had the extra cash to buy a new GPS...

Also, if you're interested in making/butchering your own cable to connect the Newton to your GPS, the makers of GPSY have a page showing different for sale cables, and a page on making your own (for chaps like me who are on a tight budget!)

So the Magellan units are Newton Compatible?

The RadioShack online store has a $50 rebate on the $199 Magellan
SporTrak Map GPS Cat # 20-1610

It says accurate within +/- 3 meters, which is all I need.

Personally, I want the GPS unit to give my Newton the co-ords of where
I am, then then when the newton has an internet connection (much of the
time) it'll send updates to my webpage, where you can see a Harry
Potter-esque like map that shows where I am.

Novelty, yes... but cool.
