Re: [NTLK] 2000U/2100 memory question...

I'd bet you are accessing the full 4MB DRAM.

I've run utilities that confirm your number of ~300K free most of the time
(with many installed apps). It's common to run out of memory on almost any
platform with any amount of RAM. Applications and usage grow to meet what's
available...kind of like when you move into a bigger house ;-)

Subject: Re: [NTLK] 2000U/2100 memory question...

okay, now I'm really confused.

I guess I thought the memory info in Extras > [i] > Memory Info was for the
Flash RAM, not the DRAM. Am I mistaken? My MessagePad typically only has 2
to 3 hundred K of free memory to work with (which often runs out when web
browsing or installing packages from the web), and I figured this was an
indicator that I was only using 1 of 4 megs of memory (if mine really does
have 4 megs, and only has ~300k free RAM at any given point, then the
original MP2k should have never been able to run, since it would appear that
the OS uses 3.7 megs of DRAM to run). I'm getting these memory statistics
from Avi's Backdrop Utility (1.3).

So am I completely confusing things, in which case I should shut up now, or
am I in fact only using 1 of 4 megs of DRAM?

Oh, and my ROM version (from Extras > [i] > Memory Info) is "ROM Version 2.1
(717260)-1". And yes, it says "System RAM Installed 3984K", just for
clarity's sake, is this number for DRAM, or FlashRAM?

Thanks so much for being such a knowledgable group. Everyone here is a joy
to work with ^_^.
