In fact there are many ways to download data/packages from your Mac/PC to
the Newt.
At the time I was a Newt-Newbie I simply started with the standard
application NCU (Newton Connection Utility)and found it very handy and easy
to use.
It is available in versions for Mac and PC as well and can be operated
intuitively.
For the PC you are limited to the serial connection to your Newt while on
the Mac you are free to use Ethernet (provided that you have a converter
from the Newts serial LocalTalk interface to Ethernet OR an Ethernet-PCMCIA
card) which is way faster.
After tapping connect on the Newt (the built in application) you tap on
install package and you can very easy browse your PCs HD, select and
transfer the package you want to install on your Newt.
Most of the packages are activated automatically after successful transfer
to the Newt. other require a restart of your Newt (which is way faster than
restarting a PC).
