[NTLK] Differences between Nimh battery and AA tray design

I Just noticed that the design of the bottoms of the Nimh battery and the
AA tray are different - the tray has an indentation toward the inner edge
and the "finger" cutauts in Me middle section. Is this just to make it
look cool, to save a couple grams of plastic, or is there some other
reason?
