Yes, almost everything, just serial and beaming between a 'normal' and = a sped-up won't work so you should use a switch=2E

This is something that interests me as well, I hope my input will be welcome in this conversation :) I agree with Paul- the two issues of how the font is indexed and how yo= u input values are distinct=2E The fact that this Greek font puts the Gr= eek characters in the same codepoints as the Roman characters is a hack mak= ing it so you can easily input Greek from a regular keyboard=2E It also me= ans that there is no other font that will display your text properly (okay,=

maybe you don't care), or that will display both English (German, Frenc= h, etc=2E) and your Greek text=2E What I think Paul proposed, and what I = believe would be the best approach, is to create a font that puts the Greek gly= phs in their standard Unicode codepoints (not overlapping with Roman characters), and write an "input method", a small application that allo= ws you to generate these proper values=2E It might be a keyboard mapping,= where the character generated by pressing a key on the keyboard would be repl= aced with a Greek character, or it could also be a phonetically based conver= ter (which could work with handwritten words as well- you'd write it out phoneticized in Roman and it would be converted)=2E I've worked with I= MEs for Japanese that work both ways (I can't use the one that remaps the keybo= ard ;) But I assume you who write Greek are accustomed to a different keyb= oard layout?) Windows 2000 and XP has what is called a "DLL cache" What this does is store a compressed copy of all DLLs that are currently in use on your machine=2E This prevents rogue installers from overwriting DLLs that shouldn't be overwritten! This cache is usually located at: C:\WINNT\system32\dllcache So, no matter how often you delete the existing DLL, the machine will replace it with the cached version=2E You can see this by looking at the event logs=2E What I would suggest is you unregister the DLLs first by dropping to the CLI and typing regsvr32=2E This will allow you to unregister the DLL and then you can delete it from the system=2E I've never seen the KB for removing OE, but I can't imagine that they would tell you to do something that wouldn't work=2E=2E=2EYou may be looking at the KB for non-2000/XP OS's=2E=2E=2Echeck it out=2E=2E=2E Ed web/gadget guru http://newton=2Etek-ed=2Ecom (download Newton packages) http://npds=2Etek-ed=2Ecom (my NPDS server and it's new subdomain) --- Robert Benschop <rbenschop_at_mac=2Ecom> wrote: > > on 10-06-2002 12:03, Victor Rehorst at > victor_at_newtontalk=2Enet wrote: > > > In the MS Knowledge base, there is an article on > how to uninstall OE manually=2E > > I followed the instrctions; it's basicially just a > walkthrough to deleting > > some DLLs and such=2E Where it got interesting was: > as soon as I deleted > > one of the DLLs, Windows would write back a new > copy immediately=2E This, > > in effect, prevents me from removing it=2E I even > tried doing it from the > > 2K command prompt - still no dice=2E > > Interesting, so basically in their own knowledge > base they tell you how to > do something completely useless and how to waste > your time ;-) > > Maybe this is because they think you should share > your viruses with your > friends ? ;-) > > > Robert Benschop > > > -- > Read the List FAQ/Etiquette: > http://www=2Enewtontalk=2Enet/faq=2Ehtml > Read the Newton FAQ: > http://www=2Eguns-media=2Ecom/mirrors/newton/faq/ > This is the NewtonTalk mailing list - > http://www=2Enewtontalk=2Enet >

Go here: http://newton=2Etek-ed=2Ecom/newtspeed I give two different versions of the acceleration process=2E I am currently running both versions=2E My NPDS server (npds=2Etek-ed=2Ecom) is permantly hardwired to 219Mhz while my personal Newton is switchable=2E This allows me the flexability to interact with non-acellerated newts=2E Speaking of compatibility, There is very little that will be a problem=2E One problem is that while=

acellerated, you will not be able to beam to normal Newts=2E Not a problem if you're the only Newt in a 100 mile radius, but becomes a problem when you show up at the next NUG meeting! Speech is rather "chipmunky" sounding, but you can get it to be somewhat normal by playing with the prefs in the in/out section=2E Then there's the additional power drain=2E While acelerated, your Newt will draw an additional 15-20ma (avi's shows 52ma non acelerated, and between 65-70 acelerated) And, while there's been alot of theory about the effects of acellerating your Newt, in practice, the Newt show no ill effects of running at 35% higher than normal=2E There are enough people on this list running acelerated Newts and the benefits far outweigh potential negatives=2E=2E=2E Ed web/gadget guru http://newton=2Etek-ed=2Ecom (download Newton packages) http://npds=2Etek-ed=2Ecom (my NPDS server and it's new subdomain) --- John Fraser <john_fraser_at_mac=2Ecom> wrote: > > does it really matter? > > btw I grabbed a 2000u + 32MB card good battery and 2 > ac adapters from a guy > for $127=2E00 shipped=2E Is that a good deal? > > Where are the best instructions on how to overclock > these bad boys=2E=2E=2E=2E=2E > > Will everything still function? Umm, yeah, of course it's not possible now=2E=2E=2E But then again, we = can always ask people like Paul Guyot about solving "impossible" programming tasks= on the Newton=2E=2E=2E

Not that I'm trying to enlist Paul or anything=2E=2E=2E ;)

If you wrote a piece of software that took the endpoints connected to t= he WaveLAN and Ethernet and tied them together, then in theory it could=2E= But I don't believe NIE 2 can do this out of the box=2E And the endpoints = would most likely have to be written in C++ for speed=2E But Paul Guyot prob= ably has more to say about this=2E

You should also consider that NCU does not support importing or exporti= ng of Unicode text=2E All characters above 8 bit are simply truncated, whi= ch results in a lot of pretty squares instead of normal text=2E So, if you= are not going to write your own connection software you better use good old=

Ah, I bet that's my problem=2E I have a WaveLAN silver card, and a App= le Airport Base Station (v2) set to do 128-bit WEP=2E

Tonight I'll try thunking the base station down to the lower level and see if it works=2E

Robert - you pegged it - I have an older OS on my eMate - need to D/L the newer one & slam it in!! Thanks for the info=2E

Victor, Ironic enough the battery is always working fine - it is that the unit, once fully charged, keeps on charging=2E It then knocks itself out & locks up the unit, requiring me to reset it=2E But battery is all=

good & well=2E Robert pegged it - I think - it is a charging issue - will be getting the new OS for it & hope it resolves=2E Will let you all know soon=2E
