The situation here in EU is a bit different. We pay for every minute
internet access, except one got a still expensive DSL or cable connection.
In my case I can't get cable internet because of the bad cable screening and
the high cost to get a new one pulled-in and thus I have to stick to ISDN
(64kBd, yarn...) On the other hand the access to .mac and its iDisk is so
slow that anything else is better. At the moment it is in the end cheaper to
get used Magneto-optical drives and put them in each computer (home and
office) to transport larger amounts of data (128...640MB) by means of
MO-disks.
