Not to offend PrintPack, but the output just plainly sux. I did try it,
again using the linux pc as an ad-hoc serial-to-parallel translator and
what rolled out of the printer was barely adequate to keep as a copy for
the archives. I don't want to send out letters that look as if they were
printed in 1985.

I currently get perfect printouts using the ethernet connection to my pc
and printing to a network printer on the Newton, but that needs a pc as an
intermediary. I can see myself in a situation where I do have access to a
printer, but not to a (configured) linux pc, and wondered if there was a
way to get PostScript-quality output in that (hypothetical) situation.

Of course, an ideal solution for me would be if some kind (and insane)
soul were to port GhostScript to the Newton... <G>
