    Wow, backup craziness!
I have about 2.8MB on my internal store and about 6.5MB on a 12MB card
that lives permanently in the upper slot of my MP2100.
I have the Newt write all data to the card, rather than the internal
store ... gotta preserve those internal chips.
I don't really worry about the 12MB card ... I think it will be a while
before it hits the 1,000,000 read/write cycles threshold.
However, the internal store is the guts of my Newt ... the extensions
that make it work the way I like etc. And since Newts have been known to
take it upon themselves to do a hard reset on occasion, I keep that backed
up to a 4MB card which I carry with me at all times. This way, if the
internal store gets zapped I can restore my Newt in a couple of minutes.
With a larger card, I'd just back up the internal to that card and save my
self carrying around the 4MB.
I also back up the whole thing via NCU once a week.
So, unless you have the only copy of your plans to conquer the world on
your Newt, I wouldn't really worry about doing multiple and card-to-card
backups unless you're doing software testing that could blast all your data
into electronic trash.
Back up your card to NCU as often as you feel is necessary and keep a
card in reserve to restore that backup to in the event something really
awful happens.
I believe ooW stated that he's only had a few cards go toasty from the
billions and billions he has owned and they did give warning signs that they
were about to send their contents to the great bit bucket in the sky.
