    OK.
Having worksites is a good idea and has cured all the problems I had
with area codes, mixtures of 7, 8, 10 and 11 digit dialing and cell,
landline and highspeed internet connections.
Since 7-digit seems to be the issue here follow these steps:
    1. set up a worksite called 'home' or whatever you'd like.
    2. dialing prefix - none
    3. area code - your area code
    4. you're done

When you go to dial someone in the same area code a slip comes up.
In the upper left choose the worksite 'home' (or whatever you called it)
The number Newton will dial should show as a 7-digit number.
If it isn't, check how you've entered the number into names and make
sure the area code is in the area code field and not in the number field or
missing entirely.

Cheers,
Peter
