I have heard of this "Freeze" thing... What does that mean?

I have been using my Newton for 5 years without freezing anything. Is it
necessary? What does it do? How do you freeze a package? What is the
upside/downside to freezing a package or extension? What tools do you
recommend for "Freezing"?

Thanks.
