Downshifting is definitely a lot more difficult than upshifting. I lost my
clutch cable one day, and drove all the way across town, through traffic,
upshifting and downshifting the whole way. The most difficult part at first,
was starting at a light, but that came rather quickly. Downshifting gave me
problems the whole time. (By the time I got to the mechanic's, I was
convinced there was no synchronizer between first and second, and second and
third) :-)
