I'd blame this on 1) MacOS's lack of a good JVM until recently and 2) damn
Java GUI widget classes (AWT/Swing). I Hate Swing(TM). It's bloated and
slow ass slow. OTOH, it's much prettier than AWT. OTOH, I can hand-code
AWT GUIs. Ah, tradeoffs.

To give you an idea, the Java NPDS Tracker that runs on my server (a Linux
box with Kernel 2.2.19 and JDK 1.2.2) uses 4.5MB of disk.
