Um....ok.

We're glad you're here, but I must say this: all you had to do is ASK
the questions, you know (and contribute, when you can) rather than
bitch. If you expected data to flow out of us and into you without you
having to expend any effort to ask....tough!

Here's a clue for you: The Newton is an APPLE product. Many if not
most of the people here are Mac users. Naturally any new Apple
product is going to get talked about. A lot. Learn to live with it.

Nothing pisses me off more than someone trying to dictate how
discussion here have to proceed. If you don't like the list, you're
free to leave it. We try to keep it on topic (Newtons specifically,
PDAs in general, portable technology and Apple occasionally) but most
of us don't mind straying occasionally. Chill out and give us a chance!

Also: Learn to use the message sort/select functions and delete button
of your mail program if you are tired of a particular message thread.
DON'T try to dictate what people try to talk about.

Now...to answer your questions:

> As nice a product as it is I
> would
> like to here about you topo five or ten or twenty must have apps to
> help me
> load mine up.

What sort of apps are you needing/wanting? What is your profession. I
ask becuase your question is a pretty broad question. My top 5/10/20
will be different from everyone else's and so will yours. Telling us
that will help the list members fine-tune the answers you get. And if
you add in MacOS or Wintel based utility apps, that's another dimension.

Check the Newton FAQ. There's lots of info there, and on Victor
Rehorsts Ethernet card page (I'm sure there's a link from the FAQ)

Try www.chuma.org or www.unna.org for a starting point. (Check out the
signature lines of message for lots of other Newton sites, too, and
start building up a list of bookmarks)

You need a 2000, 2100 or eMate for Ethernet, really. (By the way,
you'll want to mention your Newton hardware model when asking
questions....and in most cases it won't hurt to mention what OS and
version you are using on your desktop computer too)

and if I will be able to surf
> and
> check email from my cable modem.....

Depends: who provides your service? You didn't say (I see you're in
the UK; I'm in the USA) Most can (I can, for example with
AT&T/Mediacom @Home) as it uses standard TCP/IP with either manual or
DHCP addressing. Some use other things like PPPoE and I dunno if those
work with Newton.

Also, you'll either need a newton that can support TCP/IP Ethernet
(2000,2100 or eMate 3000) or perhaps a MacIP server if you have an
older Newton and can't use Ethernet.

There should be stuff about this in the FAQ too, I think.
