From "eMate Service Manual "

"Backlight blinking after starting up:

1 Power up memory test failed. If expansion memory card
installed, remove it and press reset button.
2 Remove battery, wait 30 seconds, reinstall battery, turn on
computer.
3 Remove battery, remove and reseat ROM card, reinstall
battery, turn on computer.
4 Replace logic board."

I know this is not a big help in curing the problem, but at least now you
know what this is all about.
(and you also know how a service technician is taught to think ;-)
