I have had severe problems with Newton Toolkit. Most of them disappeared
when I reduced the size of the FIFO buffer on the serial port.
(Control Panel|System|Hardware|Device Manager|Ports|Com 1|Port
Settings|Advanced).
This may also work with NCU.

Subject: [NTLK] Hello from a new Subscriber

Hi there,

I'm new(ish) to the list.

I used to lurk on this list a couple of years ago and couldn't believe
when I found the other day that it is still running! I thought I was
the only person left who was still into the Newton. It just shows what
a powerful platform it was, for so many people to be so devoted to it
still.

I've got an MP2K and am considering sending it to Dr Newton to have it
upgraded to 2100.

Has anyone outside of the US done this=3F What should I look out for=3F

I have a problem that I'd like some help with as well. I'm running
Windows 2000 (uuugh) on the desktop and can't seem to get NCU to work.
It used to work fine in Win 95/8, but now, just when it's about to
start synchronising, it "hangs up" with an error message saying the
connection was dropped -1 =3F=3F=3F I'd really like to be able to back it
up, I'll need to do a hard reset before sending it to Dr Newton. I've
tried setting the COM port speed differently - this worked once in
about 50 tries - so I don't KNOW that this is the solution. Are there
others out there that use Win2K with NCU=3F I know I've read that some
are using XP...

Lastly, are there any others out there like me that seem to be drawn to
doomed systems=3F You see, my MAIN desktop OS is the BeOS. I'd love to
be able to link up my Newt with Be, but sadly, I think I'm dreaming.

Regards,

Dave
