[NTLK] Help connecting an eMate

Recently I bought an eMate 300 on eBay and have had no success connecting it to a Windows 98 PC or to an iMac using Newton Connection Utilities software. Can anyone help?

I'm using Newton Connection Utilities 1.0 on both computers. When I attempt to connect from the eMate to either the Win 98 or iMac, I receive the same error message: "You can't connect to this desktop application." Does this mean Win 98 and Mac OS 9.1 on the iMac are too new to deal with the NCU software?

FYI, I bought the Belkin USB to serial adapter to connect the eMate to my iMac.
