My MP2000U has a severely scratched up screen and I have no problems with HW
recognition. The screen has about twenty places where the coating on the top
piece of glass is totally gone. The largest area is in the center of the
screen and is about 1/2-inch long and 1/8-inch wide. I use to use a screen
protector but did not like the feel and the loss of contrast. The biggest
cause of scratches on screens is dropped styli. Once the tip hits a hard
floor they are probably damaged and can easily scratch your screen. This is
how mine got so bad. So Chris buy the best you can afford and write to your
hearts content on whatever screen you get.
