I can't believe that all HK ISPs are offering only broadband; there must be
dial-up access somewhere.

Anyway, you can get around the broadband issue if you install a home/SOHO
router to front your Newton. The advantage is that the router will take
care of the PPPoE requirements, freeing your actual work machines to
function without having to have PPPoE clients installed (e.g. Bell
Sympatico's Access Manager PPPoE client wasn't the most stable thing in the
world). You will of course have to equip your Newton with Ethernet, which
is feasible if you have a MP2x00 or an eMate.

I've become excessively lazy and use router appliances (Nexland units
mostly, some SMC), but others I know install Linux boxes for the same task
(amazing what one can do with those old 486 boxes).
