You can place them in the cradle, but they will only be
charged if you put something like a thin piece of cardboard
beneath them so that the switch gets pressed.
The cradle is not meant for (non rechargeable) alcaline cells,
and it would be hazardous to you and the cradle if you tried
the cardboard thing with this kind of batts.

....thinking... can a switch get *de*pressed? Or would that make
it a case for a psychiatrist? Please enlighten me...
