I don't suppose you have a more accurate link or a not so gray explanation
of how to find the vea hack?

Thanks

Subject: NTLK ratings & "secret" packages

I thought I'd mention some of the packages I've found for the Newton
MP2000/2100), very uncommon and/or unusual - many haven't been mentioned
here. Note that for some of the Japanese packages, I have no URL, but a
place to start is
http://www.factory-1987.co.jp/Factory/html-folder/Newton.html If I
don't list the URL, I don't have the URL. No, I can't email you a copy.
No, I had nothing to do with ceating any of these packages.

Hacks

Tibet & TibetHack - Tibet allows the Newton to communicate with several
digital cameras (notably the Olympus 340R), download the picture, view
it, and e-mail the COLOR .jpg files. Although no longer sold, you can
download a demo (www.compassinfo.com). To make the Tibet demo work,
rumor has it, is to look for a file called "tibethack". I've heard tell
that it can be found using HotLine software (www.hotlinesw.com) and
looking in the Neewton Intelligence archive (HotLine address
"ni.syr.edu") so they say.

VideoPhoneHack - VideoPhone (from Paragon) allows two (or more?)
MP2000//2100s to share each other's screens - via IRDA infrared - as
whiteboards. In other words, what you write on one Newton appears on the
other Newt, and vice-versa. The original would de-install itseelf after
one use (devious), but this version is hacked so it doesn't deinstall.

VEA &VEAhack - VEA is a great diagramming tool from PlanetComputing.
They are long gone, but this app has a hack to make it work. See
"Tibeet" above on how to find both the package and the hack.

Utilities

JSuite - formally called xJSuite07c:Sumi from Masato Sumi: Adds a
choice to the "prefs" roll that allows you to choose the font for Names
to be displayed in the "show: all info" option. Great to make the names
more readable. As this was made to run on Newts using a Japanes
elanguage enhancement, only change the "medium"' option to 188 points.

PhotoNames - Mentioned in NewtonVersions, found somewhere in
www.factory-1987.co.jp Adds a name card option with a space for a
grayscale photo!!

Communication

Sketchmail for SimpleMail - I'm torn betwen Eudora and SimpleMail v 3.3
(haven't tried 4 yet tho) but SketchMail makes it almost no choice.
Sketchmail adds color to 4 different pen thicknessees. You can draw in
B&W, but e-mail a color .GIF file to Mac/PC users!

NewtsScape - In my opinion, the brst Newton app. A full featured WWW
browser, supports .GIF and .JPG files, tables, cookies. Can save a web
page as a Newton book. Can read and save Palm .DOC format e-texts. Worth
the money.

SmartDog OBEX - let's see, the Newton is dead for 2+ years, and new
software STILL comes out. This adds IRDA communication with the Palm
platform. I bought it sight-unseen, and recommend you do too.

Fun

Jan Jan Janken - Japanese equivalent of "rock paper scissors", works
over IRDA. Great for meetings that are so boring your brain is gnawing
its way out.
