Goodness no. You can use a regular Ethernet card from a variety of
vendors (non-serial). it's MUCH faster, and probably much cheaper too.
You can also get a USB to serial adapater (in fact, if you don't have a
serial port, you'll need to, in order to load the Ethernet software....)
